CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities are investigating the cause of a large yard fire in Caroline County.
It happened just south of Bowling Green around 10:30 a.m., according to Chief Loftus, of Caroline County Fire Rescue & Emergency Management. A witness tells 8News, the flames broke out at an old scrap yard.
Crews arrived to on scene to find heavy visible flames and smoke. The fire was fully extinguished around 11:10 a.m., Chief Loftus added.
No one was injured.
Chief Loftus added that the fire started in an unused open shell building. Workers were at the facility when the fire broke out, as they were in the process of moving old cars, he said.
The structure was severely damaged, however, Chief Loftus said it is “hard to put a value on the damage at this time.”
Still, the official cause of the fire is under investigation. AP Hill Fire & Rescue assisted with the fire.
