LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC)  —  Days after a Louisa man was injured in an officer-involved shooting at Hillcrest Cemetery, police say he has been arrested and charged with assaulting a deputy.

Virginia State Police continues to investigate.

The news comes days after Louisa County Sheriff’s office received a call at 8:36 a.m. Saturday from a man saying he was suicidal.

Upon arrival at the cemetery, a deputy confronted the man who was armed with a firearm and a knife, state police said. During the interaction with the man, the deputy shot him.

Rescue units were immediately called and administered first aid to the man once on the scene.  He was then transported to UVA Medical Center with serious injuries.

Michael Tyrone Rowe, 32, has now been charged with 1 felony count of assault on a law enforcement officer in connection with the non-fatal shooting. He is currently being held without bond at Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange County.

Police say they are releasing any additional details amid the ongoing investigation.
The deputy, who was not injured in the incident, will be placed on administrative leave, in accordance with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office policy.
State police are in possession of the deputy’s body camera and of the 911 recording. Those are both parts of the criminal investigative file.
