SUFFOLK, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities say a National Guard service member man has died following a military training exercise in Suffolk Wednesday afternoon.
First responders were contacted just after 2 p.m. about an incident at the Suffolk Executive Airport, located in the 1200 block of Gene Bolton Drive. The incident involved an adult male that was part of a military training exercise.
The victim was a member of the West Virginia National Guard.
Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded to the scene to provide emergency medical treatment. The parachutist was pronounced dead at the scene, however.
An investigation is active and ongoing.
