SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Firefighters found a man dead inside a burning home in Spotsylvania County shortly before 11:30 Thursday night.

Spotsylvania County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management says crews from Station 4 responded to Tulip Poplar Ln. for a report of a man with burn injuries. When they got there, the home was engulfed in flames.

Additional stations responded to help fight the fire.

While crews were battling the flames and heat, they searched the home and found 54-year-old Timothy Gene Nageotte inside. He had already died from the fire and smoke.

A female resident was able to get out before fire crews arrived. She was taken to Mary Washington Hospital with minor burns.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
