New Kent participating in ‘Hope Cards’ for protective orders

Local News

NEW KENT, Va. (WRIC) — Officials in New Kent are using a new system to help people under protective orders.

They will be handing out ‘Hope Cards.’ Hope cards are wallet-sized cards that summarize a protective order.

It is so that people with orders can have all the information available at all times. It also tells law enforcement that there is a valid order in place.

The ‘Hope Card’ is for anyone that has a protective order for at least 12 months for family abuse, talking or sexual assault.

For more information on the Hope Card or to request a form, you can visit the New Kent County Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court at the New Kent Courthouse or call (804) 966-9620, and you may also contact the New Kent County Victim Witness Program at (804) 966-9604 or contact the Hope Card Program Coordinator, Jaime Clemmer, at jclemmer@vacourts.gov.
