HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An off-duty Henrico firefighter is being praised for saving a woman who was experiencing a medical emergency on Route 301 in Hanover County.
Firefighter Sarah Hill was off-duty in Hanover when she noticed a woman outside her vehicle on U.S. 301 in need of help, according to Henrico County Government’s Facebook page.
After approaching the woman, Hill learned the female motorist may have been suffering a heart attack.
Hill began to check the woman’s condition prior to the woman passing out. Unable to find the woman’s pulse, Hill began performing CPR in the road’s median in the midst of traffic.
A Hanover Sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene with an automated external defibrillator (AED) soon after. Hill used the AED and continued performing CPR until Hanover Fire and EMS arrived.
Paramedics were able to transport the woman to a nearby hospital, where emergency room personnel saved her life.
