Petersburg man killed, 2 others injured in Powhatan County crash

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- One person was killed and two others seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash in Powhatan County, authorities said. 

About 11 p.m. Saturday, State Police responded to the 1200 block of Dorset Road where a 1996 Buick LeSabre was traveling northbound, crossed the center line and struck a 2010 Toyota Sienna head-on.

The driver of the Buick, who has been identified as 40-year-old Shantel T. Gerald, of Petersburg, was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police. A 34-year-old passenger in the vehicle, who was also not wearing a seat belt, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. 

The driver of the Toyota, a 33-year-old Amelia Courthouse man who police say was wearing a seat belt, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
