Police: Hacking leads to 'influx of calls' to Petersburg's 911 Emergency Communications Center

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- Petersburg Police experienced "an influx of calls" to its 911 Emergency Communications Center after a hacker reportedly linked Petersburg's 911 to another number, (804) 777-9815, on Wednesday. 

The calls reportedly came from other states: Georgia, Alabama and other southern states. 

The incident, which has been connected to a teller marketing group, also impacting the City of Richmond's 911 center, according to a release from Petersburg Police.  

Authorities urged the public to not call the number and for residents of Petersburg to dial 911 in case of an emergency.
