Police: Woman found dead in Southside Richmond alley

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A death investigation is underway in Richmond's southside after a woman was found dead in an alley in the city's Broad Rock neighborhood.

According to Richmond Police, officers were called at around 7:45 a.m. to an alley in the 3300 block of Decatur Street in the city's Broad Rock neighborhood.

When officers arrived, they found 50-year-old Dawn S. Dutcher, of Richmond, dead in an alley.

One area resident told 8News she loves where she lives and that there are many 'good, hardworking people who don't cause any trouble' living there.

Prostitution and drug addiction, however, are prevalent and that resident said attacks on women have risen.

"We've just had a lot of violence on women particularly," she said. "We need help now. We need help making sure there's lighting back there so that it would deter anything."

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of Dutcher's death.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or Major Crimes Detective K. Hughes at 646-3917.
