Residents concerned after claims of a coyote sighting in Brandermill

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) — With trick-or-treaters roaming around Brandermill on Halloween night, some residents are concerned after reportedly spotting a coyote in the area.

Michelle Pease, who lives in the area, spoke with 8News about the potential sighting.

“The problem is it has no predators, we’re the only thing that can control it,” Pease said.

Coyotes have been captured in the area before.

“As they come into suburban and city areas where the interaction with humans is going to be a much higher percentage control needs to be instituted,” said Pease.

Last night, a woman who lives in the area claims she saw the coyote running across the parkway by Brandermill Woods.

Jan Wise, another resident, spoke with 8News about the animals that have been reported missing.

“There’ve been a lot of animals disappearing around the neighborhoods in the last month or so,” Wise said, “cats in particular, and does concern me a bit.”

Pease says she lost her cat months ago.

“I don’t walk the paths in Brandermill at night anymore, not even with my dog cause even dogs aren’t really safe,” she explained.
