RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Police have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed near Scott’s Addition Tuesday morning.
Police were called to the crash at around 11:45 a.m. outside the GRTC Pulse bus stop in the 3100 block of West Broad Street at Summit Avenue.
The pedestrian — 67-year-old Luther A. Waller, Jr., of no known address — died after being transported to VCU Medical Center. The woman driving the vehicle stopped at the scene and was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Eastbound lanes of W. Broad Street were closed for roughly two-and-a-half hours between Cleveland and Altamont Avenue while police investigated.
“I don’t think that the bus stop being in the middle of the street is a good idea,” said an employee who works at the Virginia ABC Store across the street. “I always see where people run out and get caught or almost get caught and cars are beeping at them and all that stuff.”
At this time, no charges have been placed, as the crash remains under investigation.
