RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Police have reported an armed robbery on the university’s Monroe Park campus.
The alert was released shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, for a reported robbery that had occurred in the 700 block of West Main Street.
The victim in the incident reported to police that they had been approached by an unknown suspect who attempted to take the victim’s bag that was being carried over their shoulder. When the victim resisted, the suspect reportedly displayed a black and silver handgun and took the bag, according to police.
Community members were initially warned to avoid the area but in a follow-up alert at 4:15 p.m., VCU Police advised that normal activities could resume.
Police describe the suspect as a Black male wearing a black jacket, stone-washed blue jeans and red and black shoes.
VCU Police are leading the investigation and have reportedly increased patrols in the area.
