RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — William Fox Elementary in Richmond Fan District was ablaze late Friday night, with flames showing prominently from the school’s roof.

Eyewitness photos and video obtained by 8News show heavy smoke emerging from the building.

Richmond Fire crews responded to the fire around 10:35 p.m., where they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the top of the building. They said fire was quickly spreading across the top of the building when they arrived.

By 11:09 the roof began to collapse, so crews were evacuated from the inside of the building and redirected to focus efforts on extinguishing from the outside.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the incident was marked under control by RFD at 2:44 a.m.
