RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — GRTC has named Charles Mitchell, a former executive at the company, as interim CEO as the board begins a search for a new CEO.
Mitchell retired from GRTC in 2015 as Chief Operating Officer after leading the company in multiple leadership roles since the early ’90s.
“I am honored to be back here to again assist GRTC with a smooth transition between executives,” said Mitchell.
Mitchell replaces David Green, who stepped down as GRTC’s CEO earlier this month.
Mitchell’s experience with GRTC assured the board of his ability to handle the position.
“In Charlie, we are incredibly fortunate to have not only a professional with a wealth of transportation knowledge but also a familiar face to the GRTC Family,” GRTC Board Chair member Gary Armstrong said. “I know the Board is confident GRTC’s progress and continued positive momentum are in steady hands during this transition period.”
Mitchell recalled having to once step in for the company before and shared his excitement for the opportunity to do it again.
“I did this once before when Mr. Eldridge Coles retired, and I am excited to be a part of where GRTC is going,” Mitchell continued. “GRTC has completed several major initiatives since my retirement, and I look forward to contributing to further advancements in my time as interim CEO.”
The search for a new CEO is expected to take several months.
