Construction worker on VCU project hurt in industrial accident

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — An industrial accident was reported Friday morning in the area of 10th Street between Broad Street and Marshall Street, according to Virginia Capitol Police.

A Richmond firefighter at the scene told 8News that a worker was hit by a falling piece of rebar. A spokesperson for the Virginia Capitol Police told 8News that they were asked to direct traffic after the incident.

“One worker on our VCU project site was injured this morning and is receiving care at VCU Medical Center,” Jay Weisberger, a spokesperson for DPR Construction, told 8News in an email. “We are still gathering details and do not want to speculate on the cause. We are investigating now and will take appropriate action once we have all the information. In the meantime, our thoughts are with this worker.”
