Memorial honors man killed by tree limb

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Loved ones are honoring a 22-year-old man nearly a week after he was struck and killed by a falling tree limb in Richmond’s Byrd Park.

Preston ‘Gage’ Norton died on Thursday, May 10 while walking in an area near the Pump House and Boulevard Bridge.

Friends have now set up a memorial there to honor his life. Streamers, a candle, flowers and photos have been placed at the tree where he was fatally hit.

A storm that brought rain, hail and strong winds was happening when Richmond Fire Crews were called in to help around 5:15 p.m. 

A spokesperson says Norton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family and friends are also gathering for Norton’s funeral this evening.
