Neighbors fed up with abandoned home, want answers from City of Richmond

Richmond

Residents living in the Forest View neighborhood in Richmond are outraged over an abandoned home they consider an eyesore.

Heather Cullen lives across from the home believed to be vacant for more than a decade.

“We’ve been watching it fall apart for years,” Cullen said.

She and others living on Boscobel Avenue are annoyed with poor conditions, including a large hole in the roof and overgrown trees.

Cullen said raccoon and rats try making their way on her property.

“With the wildlife coming and going as it pleases from inside this house, it does make us nervous. Who knows what animals are living in there and running around,” she said.

Other neighbors have complained to the city of Richmond for years with no results.

The code enforcement office said the abandoned home is in violation, but the city is having a hard time locating the property owner.

The homeowner will likely face a citation when he’s located.

City Councilwoman Kristen Larson represents the Forest View section of Richmond and said she hopes the homeowner is held responsible and taken to court.
