Restoration work begins on I-95 James River Bridge

Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) started on Monday the restoration work on the Interstate 95 James River Bridge.

The work is expected to continue through spring 2019, and cause overnight and weekend traffic impacts.

The project includes general maintenance, such as patching the roadway and replacing joints.

“Work on the bridge will be performed during the nighttime hours to minimize the impact to drivers. However, we do expect some traffic delays and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes,” said Robert Poutier, area construction engineer for VDOT’s Central Region.

Drivers can expect single and double lane closures during weeknights and weekends. Weeknight closures will generally be from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and weekend closures will be from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Updated work schedules and other project details will be posted throughout the project on VDOT’s website.
