Victim speaks about assault in Richmond’s Fan District

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Police are investigating a video of an assault that occurred in Richmond’s Fan District this past weekend.

The video shows several cars and people in the area, blocking the intersection, forcing cars to drive around the party. The video continues and shows a man being pulled out of his van and getting punched.

8News spoke with the victim, Bradley Johnson, about what happened to him that night.

“I wasn’t understanding why they weren’t moving,” Johnson said. “I was just wanting to go through and they could continue with their party and celebration.”

Johnson says he was on his way to pick up his Uber ride in the Fan when he noticed several cars blocking the intersection he was trying to drive through.

“There was no conversation, no yelling at me or giving me any indication as to why they were doing what they were doing,” he said.

The video shows a man who opens Johnson’s door, grabs his phone and punches him in the eye.

“I don’t even know if I got both feet on the ground or both feet before he hit me with his fist across this cheek here,” Johnson told 8News.

Johnson said he got back up and then a car hit him while he tried to get their license plate number.

“She pulled forward, hit me, and I went rolling over,” Johnson said.

Johnson told 8News he is angry because this isn’t the first time he’s been assaulted.

“I was robbed at gunpoint,” he explained. “I was assaulted by four guys in a different situation, beat on the head before ended up in the hospital.”

Johnson also shared his concerns about the area with 8News.

“If that activity doesn’t stop then you’ll just get more of it and I don’t want the next person to get hurt worse than I did,” Johnson said.
