Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club take part in free Thanksgiving dinner distribution

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in Church Hill, with donations provided by Food Lion and Ukrop’s, shared holiday cheer with families by distributing free Thanksgiving dinners on Tuesday.

Food Lion and Ukrop’s worked together to help 125 local families with their Thanksgiving meals. Food Lion donated turkey, stuffing, vegetables and mashed potatoes, while Ukrop’s gave pies and rolls.

“It’s a blessing to these families to not have to worry about the cost of a Thanksgiving meal,” said Hugh Jones, executive director of The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club. “Instead, they can focus on spending time together at the dinner table.”

Volunteers put together bags full of food for Thanksgiving and distributed them to families after they picked up their children from the club at the Franklin Military Academy.
