MECKLENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities are searching for a 50-year-old Midlothian man who has been missing since reportedly falling off a boat in Mecklenburg County on Saturday afternoon.

A Facebook post from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office says a woman reported that her husband, identified as Edwin Barnes, fell off the rear of the boat while dealing with an issue with the motor at 3:45 p.m.

The post said the woman began a brief search for her husband and called 911. The VA Game and Inland Fisheries, along with the Clarksville Volunteer Fire Department, the Mecklenburg Rescue Squad and the Sheriff’s Office, responded to the Bluestone Creek Boat Ramp.

Using side scan sonar, the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team worked to locate Barnes on March 16. At 10 p.m., the search was suspended.

The search continued the next day at 9 a.m., the post said. The Sheriff’s Office utilized additional scanning capabilities and boats from other jurisdictions. A total of eight boats and 24 first responders have been used in the search for Barnes.

The boat ramp has also been closed during the search.
