SOUTH HILL, Va. (WRIC) — The Rotary Club of South Hill observed Memorial Day with a dedication for the ‘Flags For Heroes Fill the Field’ project.

The display is at the corner of Highway 58 and Peebles Street.

Each flag honors or is in memory of a military veteran or EMS provider.

“We are so happy to be able to honor those who protect and serve our country whether military or as first responders,” says Lisa Clary, Rotary President. “It is important we thank them for their service not only today but every day.”

So far there are 125 flags in the field with more to be placed later.

“This is our first year and we hope to make it bigger and better next year,” explains Clary. “We thank all those who supported this project as a Rotary fundraiser.”

Anyone interested in adding to the display can purchase a flag by Thursday, May 31. The sponsorship for the first year is $50.

Proceeds benefit Rotary projects.

Applications are available at the South Hill Chamber of Commerce, 201 South  Mecklenburg Avenue in South Hill.

The flags will remain in place until July 4.
