LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Authorities say a 17-year-old driver is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Louisa County on Saturday.
State Police responded at about 12:55 p.m. to the crash on Route 615, one and a half miles north of Route 617.
The trooper’s preliminary investigation revealed that a 1995 Ford Mustang, driven by 17-year-old Mark J. Vezina, of Gretna, Va., was traveling northbound on Route 615 when he veered left, crossing all lanes of travel. He then ran off the road to the left and hit a tree.
Vezina and a 17-year-old male passenger were not wearing their seat belt and were transported by helicopter for treatment of serious to life-threatening injuries, state police said. Vezina later died at the hospital.
Speed is being considered a factor into the crash, which remains under investigation.
