Pedestrian struck while trying to cross I-95 in Petersburg

The male pedestrian was airlifted to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A crash involving a pedestrian temporarily shut down I-95 North in Petersburg Sunday morning.

Virginia State Police said the crash happened at approximately 7:50 a.m near mile marker 51.

“An adult male pedestrian crossed all southbound lanes of I-95 went over a jersey wall and was attempting to cross northbound I-95 when he was struck by a 2011 Mercedes SUV in the left lane,” VSP said.

The male pedestrian was airlifted to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Mercedes SUV was wearing her seatbelt and taken to the hospital for minor injuries, Virginia authorities said.

All northbound lanes have since reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
