HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — A double homicide investigation is underway in Hopewell.
Police were called to the area of South 13th Avenue and Buren Street around 2:15 a.m. this morning for a report of shots fired.
Once officers arrived at the scene, they found a man and a woman inside a crashed car with gunshot wounds. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors said they heard two gunshots then three more followed by a car crash. One neighbor said he saw a light-colored sedan fleeing the scene with its lights turned off.
The victim was driving a jeep that crashed into a neighbor’s white SUV that was parked on the street. Both cars were towed following police arrival.
Rudy Ruqomore has lived in the neighborhood for over ten years and said he has never see anything like this. He was awoken by the gun shots, got out of bed after he heard the car crash, and said when he walked outside he saw the dead bodies and the Jeep’s hazard lights blinking. Ruqomore says he doesn’t feel safe in his neighborhood anymore.
“It could have been my family members, it could have been one of my children, nieces or nephews, or my friends children. It is hitting a little close to home and it’s getting to be a reoccurring thing; a daily factor,” said Ruqomore.
