Hopewell man charged with stabbing roommate

The Tri-Cities

A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a housemate after a verbal disagreement turned physical.

Officers responded to a call of a stabbing at a residence in the 1100 block of Wall Avenue on April 1 at around 5:50 p.m.

Jonathan Branch, 29, of Hopewell was taken into custody by officers after arriving on the scene and discovering another person had been stabbed several times.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Branch and the victim, who live in the same home, had gotten into a verbal disagreement that became physical, leading to the victim being stabbed multiple times.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries after the stabbing.

Officers provided care on the scene until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was then transported via med-flight to VCU Medical Center for further treatment.

The victim remains in “critical but stable” condition at this time.

Branch has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding and is being held until his arraignment.
