PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 25-year-old Hopewell man is dead after police say he was shot at a gas station in Prince George County near the city.
Police responded to a Shell gas station on the 5000 block of Oaklawn Boulevard at around 11:22 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19 for the shooting.
When they got there, they found 25-year-old Quaheem Murphy of Hopewell with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers remained on scene for four hours collecting evidence and shut down Oaklawn Boulevard for around two hours.
Susie McCallister lives less than a mile from the Shell and told 8News the gunshots woke her up.
“It was a little scary last night to hear so much gunfire,” she said. “A burst of rapid fire, then it sounded like a handgun, then came back to the rapid fire.”
According to police, it remains unclear if the shooting was random or targeted. Detectives are also still working to identify a suspect.
