COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) — A Colonial Heights woman claims a party rental company ruined her baby shower after the tent collapsed under the weight of last week’s rain.

The mom-to-be rented the tent to help keep her guests dry last Friday. But before family and friends even arrived, the tent collapsed.

To make matters worse, she said the company refused to refund her money — or even apologize — for a tent that, “when I arrived, was completely collapsed,” Shyanne Forrest explained.

With just an hour until her shower was scheduled to begin, Forrest called the company that rented her the tent.

“She said, ‘no, we can’t get anyone out there to help you. They’re on other jobs, setting up other events.’ And I was like, ‘OK, so what am I supposed to do?'”

So, she and her mother scrambled to find another venue, ultimately paying for a spot inside a nearby restaurant.

Afterwards, she thought Chesterfield Rental would try and make things right.

“If they would have offered me even a small amount back or an apology, but nothing,” Forrest said.

That night, Forrest said the owner’s wife messaged her on Facebook.

‘I will call you first thing tomorrow morning about a refund,” the message read. ‘I am sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.’

Forrest, however, still hasn’t seen a penny of her money.

“I spent a thousand dollars,” she said. “One thousand sixty-five dollars and 98 cents.”

8News went to Chesterfield Rental to find out why. The owner, Jay Brown, said he was willing to work with Forrest until she threatened legal action. He also faulted her for a bad Google review.

“I think of what I’ve had to go through, I’ve had to go this far, I think I deserve a full refund,” Forrest added.
