PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Police have ruled the death of a man who was found shot dead in Petersburg Wednesday as accidental.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Lieutenants Run Drive at 8:45 p.m. for reports of an ‘unresponsive person’ and found a man dead. Police said Thursday morning the man’s death was ‘accidental,’ but offered no further details.

Investigators are not seeking any suspects and there is no danger to the public, police added.

“The Petersburg Bureau of Police extends it’s condolences to the family of the victim,” Police said. “The Petersburg Bureau of Police supports safe and responsible gun ownership and would like to remind all to store weapons in your home safely.”

The shooting comes two days after four people were wounded after four separate shootings Monday night that occurred roughly five hours apart.
