Suspect charged with attempted murder after man critically injured in Colonial Heights shooting

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) -- A Petersburg man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a recent shooting in Colonial Heights. 

James Reid, 33, was arrested on Friday, January 25 by members of the Colonial Heights Police Department and U.S. Marshal Task Force.

The shooting occurred at around 11:45 p.m. on January 19 in the 100 block of Carroll Avenue. Police said they responded and found a 40-year-old man who had been shot in the leg. He was transported to the hopsital with injuries that were described as life-threatening, according to police. 

Reid, of the 500 block of South Dunlop Street in Petersburg, has been charged with attempted murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, reckless handling of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a firearm in a public place. 

Reid is being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail, pending his upcoming court appearance on April 3.
