Teen shot while walking alone along train tracks in Hopewell

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — A teenager was shot while walking alone along the train tracks in Hopewell. 

Police say the 14-year-old was walking between the train tracks and the roadway on the 800 block of Elm Street around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, when the teen encountered the suspect and they exchanged words. The suspect shot the 14-year-old in the upper body.

The victim was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center and is expected to survive.

The suspected shooter is described as a black man who’s about 6’1″ to 6’3″, medium build, with a goatee. He was last seen wearing dark-colored clothing.  

Further details of the incident are not being released as the investigation is on-going. 

The Hopewell Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to contact Lead Detective Mark Polumbo of the Hopewell Criminal Investigations Unit at (804) 541-2284.
