Vacant house in Petersburg goes up in flames

The Tri-Cities

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — A vacant house in Petersburg went up in flames Monday evening near the area of where a string of house fires happened a few months ago.

The fire erupted around 5 p.m. on the corner of N. South Street and Commerce Street. It took crews roughly three hours to put the fire out.

Petersburg has had a string of suspicious fires in vacant homes this year between July and September, which all happened a couple blocks away from Monday night’s fire.

The Petersburg Fire Department has not said this fire is suspicious and investigators are not connecting Monday night’s fire to other ones at this time. Additionally, the cause of the blaze is currently unknown.
