University of Richmond professor gets $400,000 grant for biology research

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) —- A University of Richmond professor is getting a very sizable research grant to help her work. 

Angie Hilliker, a professor in the school’s biology department, is receiving more than $400,000 from the National Institutes of health to study how cells make proteins – one of the basic questions of the field. 

The grant will fund three years of research in hrt lab and includes nine student assistants who will be able to work over the summer. 

It also will fund a post-baccalaureate position, which will give one or two students a chance to remain at school for a year after graduation to develop research experience before graduate school.
