RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia Commonwealth University held its spring commencement ceremony Saturday morning.

The ceremony took place at the Richmond Convention Center.

This year, VCU’s commencement speaker was CEO and founder of CoStar Group Andrew Florance.

New graduate Devin Todd told 8News during his time at VCU, he gained knowledge in the classroom and through new friendships.

“It’s ok to not know exactly what you want to do,” the health sciences graduate said. “It’s ok to just take baby steps and be open. But as long as you have some kind of goal and you’re open and willing to people around you and you’re establishing friendships and relationships and you commit yourself and you’re not afraid to ask for help you will go far in life.”

Todd plans on following his own advice. He will study abroad this summer in Jamaica before applying to physical therapy school.

VCU awarded more than 5,200 professional, graduate and undergraduate degrees and certificates Saturday. VCU now has more than 200,000 alumni.
