Local News

It’s an exciting day for soon-to-be graduates at Liberty University with graduation just days away.

Vice President Mike Pence will be the keynote speaker at commencement Saturday.

University officials have put security details in place.

“We’ve been working with the secret service and the White House team since Monday of this week,” said Lori Baker, commencement program manager.

“We’re super excited. They’re super excited about making this about the graduates and the guests and celebrating.”

Baker says the secret service plans to have full security detail in place for Pence’s arrival. Guests attending commencement will also have to go through metal detectors and abide by the clear bag policy in place.

With 60,000 people expected to attend, the university has added additional parking off campus.

Guests can park at the River Ridge Mall, and eight different bus shuttles will be used to transport them to the campus.

Gates to the stadium open at 6 a.m. and commencement is set to start around 8:20.
