FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — Deputies in Spotsylvania are investigating after three people were found dead in a home Wednesday morning.
Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said deputies found the bodies of three people inside a home on Arlene Acres Drive at about 9 a.m. Authorities said the manner of death appears to have come “from a sharp instrument,” and that they have ruled it a homicide case.
The victims were identified by the Sheriff’s Office as 39-year-old Michael Coleman, 34-year-old Rachel Ozuna and 14-year-old Kyrrus Ozuna.
According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, all three victims suffered wounds to the neck.
Captain Charles Carey with the Sheriff’s Office told 8News over the phone that an infant and toddler were found alive in the home. Capt. Carey said the children were not harmed but were taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
“Typically, with any scene involving a suspicious death, the crime scene can be held for quite awhile. It takes a long time to do the forensic examination portions of those examinations,” Capt. Carey said. Carey said any death investigation is tough to deal with but the fact that a teen was found dead impacts him differently.
“Of course any death takes a toll on anyone who’s working it, no matter what the age is,” he said, “but it always touches a little closer to your heartstrings whenever you have a juvenile involved.”
“This is not an area where we typically have a lot of issues and at this point, we don’t think there’s any further danger to our community,” Capt. Carey told 8News.
