Virginia sisters win $10 million from lottery scratcher game

Local News

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WRIC) —- Two sisters from Virginia Beach won a $10 million jackpot on a lottery scratcher game.

Juanita Simpson and Sharon Calhoun claimed the top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s “100X the Money” scratcher game.

Simpson and Calhoun decided to take the one-time cash option of more than $5.6 million before taxes. The two could have instead taken the full amount over the course of 30 years.

The winning ticket was purchased by Simpson and Calhoun’s brother at a Food Lion in Newport News. While Simpson and Calhoun were in town visiting, they asked him to pick up the ticket. When he returned, the sisters scratched it and found out they had won.

A news release from the Virginia Lottery said Simpson and Calhoun are very close and even refer to themselves as “sister-girlfriends.”

Now, the pair are Virginia’s newest millionaires.
