Woman carjacked by two men in Richmond’s Fan neighborhood

Local News

Folks living in Richmond Fan neighborhood are on high alert after two armed men carjacked a woman.

It happened at the intersection of Granby Street and Stuart Avenue near Meadow Park before 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Police said the victim told them she was parking her car before the incident happened.

The suspects told her to walk away from the car that had most of her belongings in it.

Neighbor Cheri Anthony lives across the street from the scene.

“This is the first time we’ve ever had anything like this close to home,” Anthony said.

The victim left unharmed but without her belongings and her car.

Neighbor Helene Negler said the area sees a lot of foot traffic and it’s unusual that a carjacking took place.

“It sounds to me like the young woman did the right thing by just giving up the car, it’s just property and be safe,” Negler said.

In the past month, police said there have been 23 thefts from cars in the Fan, encouraging neighbors to watch for suspicious activity.

“It’s being sensible, don’t walk in necessarily the darkest places,” Negler said.

Police describe the suspects as two black males, approximately 5’10”-6’0 in height in their mid-20s with a thin build.

Anyone with information is asked to call Third Precinct Detective A. Davila at 804-646-1069 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000
