BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – Investigators say a man is facing an attempted murder charge after he tried to attack his son with a chainsaw.

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has charged Douglas Ferguson, 76 of Bristol, with attempted second-degree murder.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident happened on June 28 at a home on Highway 421 in Bristol. Investigators say Ferguson tried to attack his son with a chainsaw while the son was mowing the yard.

During the attempted attack, the son defended himself by running over Ferguson with the lawn mower. When deputies arrived on scene, they found Ferguson bleeding from his head and leg.

Ferguson was arrested Tuesday. The sheriff’s office says he was not arrested sooner due to his injuries. He remains in jail on $25,000 bond.
