Mass-casualty drill held Friday at Chippenham Hospital

Chippenham Hospital is holding a full-scale emergency preparedness drill this morning.

The drill started at 9 a.m. and they were joined by the Richmond Fire Department, Richmond and Henrico Police Bomb Squads, Richmond Ambulance Authority, Boy Scouts of America, Chesterfield Fire & EMS, Goochland Fire & EMS, Forest View Volunteer Rescue Squad, Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad and 17 member hospitals from the Central Virginia Healthcare Coalition, with some of the Scouts playing the roles of victims.

The hospital is simulating a mass-casualty scenario in order to gauge the effectiveness of the hospital and of first responders.

They are focusing on critical transportation, situational assessment, communications, public health and medical service, and on-scene security and protection.
