Former cheerleading coach accused of sexting teen girls

AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) - A well-known cheerleading coach in Austin, Texas and around the country is in jail in Cambridgeshire, England, after police there say he was caught sexting a young girl.

Chase Fowler, 27, was sentenced to a year behind bars after police say he sent an "indecent photo" of himself to a 13-year-old girl he coached there. They also say when they searched his phone, they found sexual conversations and photos between Fowler and a 14-year-old girl in the United States.

Fowler travels the world volunteering as a cheerleading coach, and police say in their interview, he referred to himself as a "cheer-lebrity."

KXAN found that Fowler has lived and worked in Austin for two different cheerleading gyms, Cheer Athletics on North Lamar and TumblePRO on Anderson Mill Road.

The manager at TumblePro Austin said an attorney advised the gym not to say anything about when or for how long Fowler worked there. The manager said he was let go.

A director at Cheer Athletics said Fowler was hired there in 2014 but was fired shortly after. According to the director, Fowler broke a company policy that said coaches weren't allowed to socialize with athletes with situations or settings not associated with the scope of their work.

Cheer Athletics says at the time he was hired, Fowler passed a background check.

A spokeswoman for the Austin Police Department says APD hasn't received any reports involving Fowler. When KXAN asked whether the Travis County Sheriff's Office is investigating the coach, officials said to file an open records request.
