News

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Dozens of people celebrated American citizenship Tuesday in Richmond.

About 80 people from 33 countries pledged allegiance to the United States in the ceremony at the Historic St. John’s Church. The church is known for being the spot where Patrick Henry delivered his “Give me liberty, or give me death” speech.

Josue Juarez, who is originally from Mexico, said he is overjoyed to be a citizen.

“It feels great,” Juarez said. “It’s an honor to be a United States citizen.”

The area’s next naturalization ceremony is May 10 at the Virginia State Capitol.
