No birds survive in the Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch fire

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich (WLNS) – A massive fire burned at the Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch damaging one building containing birds Tuesday.

Fire officials responded to a fire in the area of M-66 and Portland Road in Berlin Township at Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch.

Herbruck‚Äôs Poultry Ranch is the largest egg producer in Michigan and the 13th largest in the United States. The farm has six million laying hens.

The ranch said in a statement that workers observed smoke coming from a barn.

Dispatchers said the fire sparked in a back barn.

Herbruck said that no workers were injured in the fire.

However, the one building that was damaged was occupied at the time and none of the birds in the building survived.

An investigation is underway to determine what caused the fire.
