FORT LEE, Va. (WRIC) – Fort Lee Police and Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel are responding to an apparently undetonated Civil War-era cannonball discovered this morning on a training range here.
The area is secure and an Army EOD team from Fort Belvoir is en route to safely dispose of the 4-inch shell.
Prince George County and Hopewell residents living near training areas adjacent to River Road may hear a loud boom if on-site detonation of the cannonball is determined to be the safest method for disposal.
Installation operations are unaffected and continuing as normal. This is a developing story. Stay with 8News online and on air for the latest updates. Find 8News on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; send your news tips to iReport8@wric.com.
