Residents search for solutions as Capital Trail fills with trash

News

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The trash keeps mounting on the Capital Trail near Rocketts Landing raising concerns for residents and visitors.

“I’m very, very disgusted,” Rocketts Landing resident Deb Green said.

Green told 8News that the problem has only been getting worse and the trash continues to mount everywhere you look.

Residents want the problem fixed not just for themselves but for the tourism impact this has.

“We have all kinds of bikers on the Capitol Trail, all kinds of walkers and runners,” Green said. “And it’s like, it just leaves a bad impression.”

Part of the problem is that last year the city completed renovations and left the trail with no trash cans.

“They don’t leave nothing out here and that’s a damn shame they don’t have trash cans,” Liston Hayes said. “Then again, I think it’s a shame that people throw their trash right here.

Green said that the trail needs several trash cans strategically located to help solve the issue.

8News reached out to Richmond City Public Works officials who said it is their responsibility and problem will be fixed as soon as possible.
