RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Electric scooters are officially coming to Richmond.

Mayor Levar Stoney is expected to announce next Thursday that ‘Bolt Mobility’ will become the first company to deploy dockless e-scooters across the city.

Bolt plans to scatter roughly 500 scooters across the city this summer.

The announcement comes roughly three months after a different company, Lime, had an application approved to roll out scooters in Richmon and 10 months after California-based company Bird Rides Inc. scattered dozens of the dockless scooters throughout downtown without informing the city.

City council later voted 6-3 to approve an ordinance requiring interested companies to pay an annual permit fee in order to bring their scooter rentals to town.
