RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A celebration of diversity took place yesterday at the 12th annual RVA Peace Festival.

This year it was held at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

The festival started in 2004 after the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Participants say it’s an opportunity for kids and adults to get to know people they might not otherwise interact with.

Annette Khan, one of the peace festival’s chairs, described the peace festival’s importance.

“People who wouldn’t go to a lecture to learn about Islam, for example, might by chance meet a Muslim and say they’re the nicest person I’ve ever met,” Khan said.
