CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Guests can enjoy the brand new Secretariat Heritage Center at the Meadow Event Park in Doswell after it officially opened this weekend.

The center will celebrate the legacy and birthplace of the legendary racehorse. Born in 1970 in Caroline County, Secretariat became a horseracing legend after winning the Triple Crown in 1973.

The center will include a life-size statue of Secretariat and also memorabilia for guests to buy. “We have the tour program year round but as we develop more things with the Secretariat Heritage Center and basically build it out then yes it would be even more of a year-round tourism attraction,” said Leeanne Ladin, the Secretariat Tourism Manager. “In addition to the State Fair, the Horse Festival.”

The Virginia Horse Festival is going on at Meadow Event Park from Friday until the end of the weekend. Tickets are $15 and children 12 and under can get into the festival for free.
