HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Fans, get your engines started!
NASCAR is back at Richmond Raceway for the ToyotaCare 250 on Friday and the Toyota Owners 400 on Saturday.
As crews and racers get ready for their races, there’s a lot of preparation. 8News spoke Richmond Raceway President, Dennis Bickmeier, ahead of the big weekend.
“We’ve had campers here since Tuesday. It’s almost like it’s its own little city here. That’s really how we approach it … everything you would take to run a small city, that’s what we do here. We just do it for a week at a time.”
Fans can expect some new additions, including G-Force Go Karts, a craft beer festival and a new infield.
The racers are also excited to be back at the Richmond track. Driver Brandon Jones told 8News he loves coming to Richmond because it’s close to his home, and enjoys how the ToytaCare 250 is a one-day show.
“It’ll be interesting … I love night racing. You see a lot of sparks, a lot of people hitting the wall. It amplifies at night, so it really makes it exciting for the fans to come watch.”
