PAICINAS (KRON) – If you thought rainbows were a rare sight, wait until you see this!
A circumhorizon, or ‘fire rainbow,’ was captured hovering over Pinnacles National Park in Central California yesterday.
These bizarre bows are amazing anomalies that only occur under optimal conditions.
KRON4 Meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez explains when the sun is high enough (above 58 degrees), it creates a large halo parallel to the horizon. Then cirrus clouds light up with color and take on an iridescent look.
This phenomenon is also referred to as a circumhorizontal arc.
